Mrs. Garrity's Kindergarteners are Using Reading Strategies!

We are learning about our Reading “Super Powers” in Kindergarten.  These are the strategies that beginning readers can use to help them figure out unknown words.  Today we are learning about a new strategy called “Chunky Monkey.” Readers had to use their own “chunky monkey” to find word chunks using the books in their own reading bags.

   Bennett R. said “I found the word chunk an in the word stand.”

   Samuel S. said “I found the word on in the word pond.”

  Brody B. said “I found the word an in the word blanket.”

  Connor M. said “I found the word chunk a in the word cat.”

  Olivia said “Look it’s as in the word has.  It’s a word chunk!”
