Ms. Baker's First Graders

First grade has been learning about money! We have learned what the different coins look like, how much they are worth, and how to pay for different things!  Please scan the QR code to step inside our first grade classroom and see what we are learning aboutJ.

5th Grade Hands on Science

On Thursday November 16, 5th graders were excited to welcome parents into the science lab to help learn about physics. The first Hands on Science event was truly a success with students working alongside parent volunteers to observe various science topics such as: light refracting and reflecting, the density difference between regular soda and diet soda and students even observe the conduction of thermal energy as heat traveled through aluminum foil, melting Hershey Kisses along the way.

“It was really cool seeing my dad helping us learn science,” said one student whose dad volunteered. “He wasn’t able to attend many events last year, but I liked that he got to see some of the things we’re learning in class.”

5th grade plans to hold their next Hands on Science event in March so please be on the lookout for information regarding volunteer opportunities for this fun, educational event.

Learning about holidays, traditions, and customs in Mrs. Hilliard's class!

We talked about the New Year and made new years goals. We learned about the way Chinese New Year is celebrated and known as the Lunar New Year. We also learned about the meaning of the Chinese dragon, which is a symbol for strength and goodness, and we made dragon puppets! We ended our unit learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and what great things he did for our country.

Student quotes:

Jack S : MLK Jr.  was important because he helped people.
Bailey B: MLK Jr. was important because he helped changed laws.

Cassandra E : MLK Jr. was important because he made the world a better place.

Mrs. Demarchi's Kindergarteners!

The Kindergarteners in Math Intervention are experiencing learning through all their senses.  They are working hard on tracing and saying numbers, writing numbers in shaving cream, jumping and counting on a number line, searching and dotting numbers as they play “I Spy”, and writing numbers on the Smart Board.

“I like the shaving cream”- Jacob

Mrs. Waters' Class JA in a Day!

Junior Achievement in 2nd grade was in full swing last Friday. We were very fortunate to have Mrs. Knicely as our class volunteer. She did an amazing job teaching the kids about all the different jobs found in any given community. Our students learned about work readiness and entrepreneurship in our great community. Making donuts was a great way to start the day. Although they weren’t big fans of paying taxes on the donuts they sold, they did enjoy getting to devour the donut deliciousness at the end of the lesson.

JRE P.E. Survivors!

5th, 4th, and 3rd graders learned how to utilize their resources to get from point A to point B without touching the floor.  Students used creative strategies to work as a team to achieve their goal.  Student success was shaped by communication, teamwork, and physical fitness.  There may have been challenges that occurred along their journey that forced our students to re-group and re-think their strategies and start all over.  This game teaches students the importance of cooperation, innovative collaboration, and effective communication.  Our goal as P.E. teachers is to instill these techniques in our students so they can utilize these skills throughout their daily lives.
